Our Mission

The Foundation of the Arc of Northern Virginia’s Special Needs Trust Program is the legal name designated for Supplemental or Special Needs Trusts (SNT). The purpose of this SNT Program is to enable people with disabilities to derive the greatest possible benefit from family money, financial settlements, financial gifts and other awards of money and assets, in addition to any public benefits and services to which they have entitlement.

Our goal here is to work closely with families and individuals with disabilities on planning for the ‘now’ as well as the future. It is important to ensure that you are financially secure in the long run, or that your son or daughter is financially well-taken care of when you can no longer provide help. Our Pooled SNT helps families provide for the financial future of their loved one without affecting their eligibility to government benefits.

The Foundation of the Arc of Northern Virginia has partnered with SunTrust Bank to deliver unique and individualized services to participants of our Pooled SNT Program. SunTrust Bank serves as the Trustee and Investment Manager, while The Foundation of the Arc of Northern Virginia serves as Trust Manager. The two teams work together seamlessly to ensure that the funds reach the intended individual in a manner best suited to meet that individual’s needs.

Parents and providers alike often exclaim how thankful they are to have found us. The high level of expertise our Trust Team possesses allows parents the opportunity to obtain the answers they seek as they plan for the future of their children with disabilities.

  • Our Expertise

This is the seventeenth year that The Foundation of the Arc of Northern Virginia SNT Program has been in operation. We offer continuity, reliability, and expertise while providing Pooled trust management services to families and individuals with all disabilities in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC.

  • Continuity, Reliability, and Expertise

The Arc is the world’s largest community based organization of and for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our history, stability, and expertise are well documented. The Arc of Northern Virginia chapter was established in 1963 and continues to be a leader in advocating and supporting individuals with disabilities and their families. We stay current on all of the federal government benefit programs. We also use our knowledge to help ease the family’s burden of having to navigate through yet another system.  By doing so, you or your child’s entitlement to public benefits is preserved while allowing the individual with disabilities to receive the benefit of the trust assets.

  • Professional, Affordable Management

The Foundation of The Arc of Northern Virginia oversees the Pooled SNT Program. The Trust Team handles the day-to-day management of disbursements to be used on behalf of the SNT Beneficiary. By offering a one-time consultation and enrollment fee, as well as low annual fees, our SNT is affordable to families and individuals with disabilities. SunTrust Bank serves as Trustee and provides professional investment services.
