SUMMARY:FFFP: Who will Advocate when You're Gone? (WEBINAR)
DESCRIPTION:How often do we worry about the future of our (adult) children with disabilities? As parents and primary caregivers\, we possess a wealth of knowledge that no one else shares. We need to pass on that knowledge before we die\, preferably long before we die. It takes energy and perseverance to relay that information. We advocate daily\, teach daily\, get frustrated daily – for our children\, to our children\, about the systems. We have and continue to work diligently to secure the best possible and most secure lives for our children. We don’t want that to disappear\, dissipate when we no longer are able or willing to advocate for them. We also need to find peace with the fact that no one will advocate as well as we do for our children. Thus\, we need to create detailed plans that address the future of our (adult) children with disabilities. \nThose detailed plans can be in the form of long-term advocacy plans. They should address our (adult) children’s wishes and ours. We should involve our child in the process to the greatest extent possible. We need to involve their siblings\, friends and family as soon as we can. The plan needs to address the past\, present and future; the likes and dislikes; the tried and true methods we implement to address a variety of situations. It covers health\, housing\, recreation. It details spiritual\, medical\, financial\, and government benefits. And more…. \nJoin us to learn about the tools available to you and how we at The Arc of Northern Virginia can assist you in that planning process. \n\n\n\nPresenters: \nSally Wilklow\, MSW\, Advocate\nTia Marsili\,  Director of Trusts\, The Arc of Northern Virginia\n  \nDue to the growing health concerns caused by COVID-19 (coronavirus)\, and upon the guidance of local\, state\, and national health agencies\, we will be holding this presentation via a webinar. \nRegister for the Webinar Here \n  \nGood news! All of our FFFP presentations are recorded. So if you cannot attend this webinar\, please still register so that we may have your email address on file. We will email you a link to download and watch the recording after the presentation has ended. All of our previous presentations are also posted on our YouTube site under the FFFP playlist.
