She graduated in 2019 with a Master’s degree from Tufts University in Child Study and Human Development\, with a focus on youth mental health. She has been working at NAMI Northern Virginia for 2.5 years\, coordinating NAMI Ending the Silence Presentations for youth\, working with the youth advisory board\, and coordinating outreach presentations and events. \nKelly Henderson\, Ph.D. – Executive Director\, Formed Families Forward\nA special educator by profession\, Kelly is a former public school teacher of students with emotional and behavioral disorders\, and has worked in national and federal special education policy and research settings. Kelly’s family is formed in part through public foster care and adoption. Her children have a range of learning\, behavioral and cognitive disabilities for which they have received early intervention\, special education and related services. Kelly has trained adoptive\, foster and kinship families and agency personnel on special education-related needs of children and has provided information and supports to many individual families. DESCRIPTION:Staff from The Arc of Northern Virginia’s Special Needs Trust program will be at MILCON 2022. \nMilitary service members and their families are resilient and resourceful\, many also face unique challenges and have special considerations related to the service of their country. When military families have a student with a disability\, it adds another layer of complexity to accessing information and supports\, while ensuring their students receive a free\, appropriate public education. \nPEATC\, in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education\, invites military service members and their families who have students with disabilities\, as well as the educators and other support professionals who serve them\, to join us for a virtual conference designed with their interests in mind! \nThere will be an exhibitor’s hall and meet and greet on Sunday\, May 8\, 2022 from 6- 8 pm\, giving attendees an opportunity to network with each other\, the presenters\, the keynote speaker and gather important resources. \nMonday\, May 9\, 2022 will be a day filled with a host of information and presentations from professionals with experience and a passion for Special Education and the military family. In this presentation\, learn about the roles of Special Needs Trusts in safeguarding government benefits while ensuring your (adult) child’s personal needs and aspirations continue to be met in the future. \nNow on the third Friday of every third month (May\, Aug\, Nov\, Feb)\, our quarterly online meeting about Special Needs Trusts is hosted by Trust Director Tia Marsili. \n— \nJennifer Crane is a Senior Associate with McCandlish Lillard. Her practice focuses on trusts and estates\, including Last Wills and Testaments\, Living Trusts\, and Medical and Financial Powers of Attorney. Jenn also helps clients with special needs planning and elder law\, two subject areas close to her heart. \nUpon graduating from Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law and joining the Bars of Virginia and the District of Columbia\, Jennifer clerked for the Honorable Zinora Mitchell-Rankin of D.C. Superior Court. She transitioned to private practice in northern Virginia in 2007 and spent much of her professional life devoted to estate planning\, elder law\, and the special needs requirements of her clients. \nJenn brings her unique blend of compassion\, dedication\, and responsiveness to the clients she serves at McCandlish Lillard. She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys\, the Virginia Academy of Elder Law Attorneys\, and the Academy of Special Needs Planners. In 2022\, Jenn was awarded the Accredited Estate Planner Designation (AEP®) by The National Association of Estate Planners and Councils\, a graduate-level specialization that recognizes educated\, knowledgeable\, experienced\, and ethical estate planning professionals. \nRegister for this event here.
