SUMMARY:FFFP - April 7\, 2023 - Military Benefits\, Retirement\, and Financial Planning
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Heather Walrath\, Military Benefits Liason with Navy Mutual \nBeing in a military family comes with its own unique challenges. These challenges are often harder for families of children with disabilities or special health care needs. A new assignment might mean a move to a different city\, state\, or country with different support systems. And even a long-term assignment means knowing how to manage and coordinate military benefits systems with those in the community. The systems are usually confusing and often overwhelming. \nThat’s why The Arc of Northern Virginia takes extra care to help military families understand and take steps when it comes to futures planning for their family member with a disability. Join us for this First Fridays Futures Planning webinar focusing on financial planning for active-duty\, reservists\, veterans\, and military retirees. \nOur presenter is Heather Walrath\, Military Benefits Liason with Navy Mutual Aid Association. Heather is a subject matter expert on military survivor benefits and the DoD Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) Program. \n

SUMMARY:EFMP Resource Fair - April 18\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:Members of the Trust Team will be onhand to answer your questions and provide information on our Special Needs Trust program. \nThe goal of this event is to allow our Families to gain an awareness of the resources for their loved ones in their surrounding area. The Exceptional Family Member Program at Fort Belvoir is a program that works with other military and civilian agencies to provide comprehensive and coordinated community support\, housing\, medical\, educational and personal services to families with special needs. \nThe month of April has been recognized as a special opportunity to educate the public about Autism and issues within the Autism community. According to The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke\, Autism is defined as “a range of complex neurodevelopment disorders\, characterized by social impairments\, communication difficulties\, and restricted\, repetitive\, and stereotyped patterns of behavior.” There is no known single cause of Autism\, but increased awareness can help many of families today. \nThe individuals participating will be our Soldiers\, family and caregivers of our Exceptional Family members. \n
